Servant leaders work relentlessly to support the people around them and they focus on the needs of others. That description defines Kate Asis, M.S., BCBA, Assistant Vice President for Autism Services, the 2017 Servant Heart Award winner for Spectrum Center Schools and Programs. As a Behavior Analyst, Kate is passionate about providing students with life-changing therapy to help ensure they reach their full potential.
Her forgiving, honest, humble, kind, patient, respectful and selfless personality make Kate the perfect choice for this award. She is a strong, dedicated servant leader who deserves to be celebrated.
We asked Kate the following questions about what it means to be a recipient of the Servant Heart Award and here is what she had to say:
Q: What does being a Servant Heart Award recipient mean to you?
A: I am deeply humbled to be a recipient of a Servant Heart Award. I am honored to join past and
future recipients of this prestigious award.
Q: What does it mean to you to be a member of an organization committed to Servant
Leadership?
A: I take great pleasure in being a member of an organization that fosters positive influence,
inspires growth and transforms lives.
Q: Do you have a favorite tenet of Servant Leadership? If so, what is it and why?
A: The tenet that I like the most is patience. This tenet makes me realize that in order to see
results, it takes time and it is a process…especially when influencing people.
Q: What do you like most about working for ChanceLight/Spectrum?
A: When I see positive results in our students and the progress they make, and the dedication of
our staff in working on the same goal.

She selflessly takes on any task that needs to be done, which recently has included leaving home early in the morning to catch a flight to Northern California to support a campus, then returning home late that evening to be with her family.
• She has taken the lead in holding us all accountable for data collection, providing honest feedback in a respectful manner.
• Whether interacting with the leadership team, supporting an SBA, or helping in a classroom, she does so with humility without regard to getting credit for her accomplishments.

More fun facts about Kate:
Kate specializes in implementing ABA principles in the educational settings. In her current role, she oversees the implementation of evidence-based instructional strategies as well as evidence-based curricula in the classrooms, campuses and Spectrum as a whole. She has conducted workshops and panel discussions at ABA conferences, including the California Association of Behavior Analysis Convention and the Association of Behavior Analysis International. Prior to joining Spectrum Center, Kate provided behavior analysis services to children diagnosed with autism and related disorders in the home and school settings. Kate obtained her Bachelor of Arts degree in Psychology in 2003 and Master of Science Degree in Counseling with an emphasis in Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA) in 2008 from California State University, Los Angeles.
