In summer 2016, ChanceLight participated in RISE-UP Scholars. A poster session was held at the Sanford School of Medicine campus at the University of South Dakota on August 3 as a culminating activity.
RISE-UP (Research Initiatives for Students) provides public health training opportunities for undergraduate students from underrepresented racial and ethnic groups, to encourage and support the pursuit of graduate degrees. A collaboration of Kennedy Krieger Institute and the Maternal and Child Health Bureau, the program is funded by the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention. By promoting a more diversified and equal health system, the program strives to introduce highly qualified undergraduate students from under-represented groups to the field of public health.
Berenice served as an intern for eight weeks with the ChanceLight Sioux Falls team as part of a program sponsored by the Center for Disease Control and administered by the Kennedy Krieger Institute, where interns work with employers at the request or Johns Hopkins, the University of South Dakota, UCLA, or USC. We wish her the best in her future academic endeavors!
