Columbia, SC (WLTX) – A Midlands autism advocacy group received a big donation from a Columbia clothing store.
Back in November, the Pink Sorbet store on Devine Street in Columbia began selling a Lilly Pulitzer scarf created in honor of children with autism across the state of South Carolina. Five hundred scarves were purchased by customers in the store as well as autism advocates across the country, and Tuesday, the store presented a $10,000 check to the Winston’s Wish foundation.
Winston Ridley is a 12 year old boy who was diagnosed with autism when he was 20 months old. His mom started the foundation in his name to help other families dealing with autism.
“It’s such an amazing and generous gift and it’s a real honor to be chosen,” Marcella Ridley said. “Ann Eldredge and Susan Butler have been working with Winston since he was diagnosed through the early autism project. Without them my son would not be where he is today. For them to tap my foundation it has been overwhelming for me really.”
The money will be used to educate the community about autism and fund programs for children with autism and their families.
