Rockford – RPS parents get a chance to learn about the district’s new alternative education program.
It’s called the Ombudsman Program. It combines computers with teacher-led instruction making it easier for students to follow along.
You can’t apply to join the program. Kids who are struggling to keep up in their normal classes would be referred to the program by their school’s principal.
“Students who are not able to learn in large group settings can learn in a smaller group setting” says Dr. Chaun Johnson of the Rockford Innovated Learning Center. “There’s individualized instruction. It’s differentiated instruction by certified teachers.”
Dr. Johnson says students will get one-on-one lessons and spend three hours a day in the program.
